Winter storms & propane safety

CoEnergy Propane's number one priority is safety. With the winter months settling in, we want your homes to be warm and your power source to be reliable. When used appropriately, propane provides that along with peace of mind. Follow these tips to keep your family safe when using propane:

  • Make sure you have adequate propane supply before a storm arrives. This will prevent you from running empty when snow and ice make roads inaccessible for delivery.

  • Mark the location of your tank with a pole or stake, to help avoid plowing or shoveling over the top of it. Use a soft broom or brush to remove excess snow from your tank.

  • As long as it is safe to do so, check your propane tank for damage and make sure it is clear of debris like falling limbs. Immediately call your propane supplier if these hazards exist.

  • Never use a stove for space heating, and never use outdoor propane appliances indoors or in enclosed areas, particularly in the event of a power outage. Proper ventilation is necessary for their safe operation, and carbon monoxide fumes can be lethal. Never store, place or use a propane cylinder indoors or in enclosed areas.
