Back to school with braces

It’s that time of year! Gearing up for back to school should include taking care of braces, too. Help your child keep a healthy smile, with our school-year tips:

Mouthguards | If your child is in sports, protect their teeth with a mouthguard. Yes, there are ones that fit over braces!

Braces-friendly foods | Look for foods that aren’t sticky, hard or chewy. Think mashed potatoes instead of potato chips, and applesauce instead of apples.

Dental hygiene | Remind them to brush their teeth before going to school, 30 minutes after eating. No dashing out the door with a pop tart.

Locker essentials | Get them a small magnetic mirror for teeth checks (no one wants food bits stuck in their smiles). For extra credit in our world, get them a small toothbrush and toothpaste for brushing after lunch.

Water | That fancy water bottle your kid is begging for? Well, we have to take their side on this one, as water not only helps hydration, rinsing your mouth with water gets rid of pesky food bits, too.

If you haven’t gotten your child started with orthodontic care, contact our office for a free evaluation. We can guide you through financing, payment plans and more.
