When life changes, your estate plan should, too

You’ve already taken the important step of creating an estate plan. Gold star! But as life changes (and wow, does it ever), your estate plan should evolve right along with it.

Have you recently gone through a divorce or remarried? Is your blended family now…more blended? Maybe your sweet little ones have transformed into high‑schoolers who drive, have part-time jobs and eat approximately 47 snacks a day. If something happened to you, would you still want them sent to your sister in Colorado like you planned when they were in the “I do it myself!” stage? Or maybe staying in their current community and school, with trusted friends, makes more sense now that they are older.

Perhaps your kids are adults now, with families of their own, and you want to include those adorable grandbabies in the plan. Or maybe your finances or assets have changed, and your old will‑based plan needs to convert to a trust‑based one.

Think of your estate plan like the family calendar: helpful, essential and only useful when it’s actually current. Refresh your documents so your family, as it exists today, is cared for exactly the way you intend.
