Lane County Waste Management’s Nuisance Abatement Program helps preserve the community’s natural beauty by removing illegal dump sites along 1,432 miles of county roads and on county property. The program also helps enforce Lane County’s illegal dumping laws.

People who dump trash illegally are subject to civil citations and fines of up to $2,000. They may also be ordered to clean up the garbage and pay cleanup costs. When dump sites involve significant amounts of trash, rugged terrain, hazardous waste or other unusual circumstances, cleanup costs may be more than the fine.

Illegal dump sites often include materials that can be recycled for free at county transfer stations, including mattresses, electronics and common recyclables like cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and scrap metal.

If you see illegal dumping on Lane County roads and property:

  1. Record the date, time and exact address.

  2. Record the license plate number and vehicle description (if possible).

  3. DO NOT TOUCH OR REMOVE ANYTHING!

Visit lanecountyor.gov/KeepLaneClean, call (541) 682-4533 or download the Waste Wise Lane County app to report a dump site. For non-county roads and locations (i.e., inside cities or on state or federal highways), contact those organizations directly.
