Back pain during pregnancy

If you’re pregnant and dealing with back pain, you’re not alone. A growing belly, shifting posture, hormonal changes and altered movement patterns make back discomfort common during pregnancy. But just because back pain is common doesn’t mean it’s something you have to suffer from.

Pregnancy changes how your body moves and supports itself. As your center of gravity shifts, muscles that once worked together may become overloaded or underactive. Add in fatigue and stress, it’s no surprise that the low back, hips and pelvis often start to ache.

This is where working with a physical therapist can make a meaningful difference. A pregnancy-trained PT goes beyond the advice of “just rest,” or “wait until after birth.” We assess posture, movement patterns, breathing and core support to identify what’s truly driving your discomfort. From there, we create a personalized plan that may include gentle strengthening, mobility work, hands-on treatment and strategies for daily activities like sleeping, lifting and sitting.

The goal isn’t just temporary relief; it’s helping you feel strong and supported throughout pregnancy and into postpartum recovery. You deserve to enjoy this season without constant pain. If back pain is interfering with your daily life, know that help exists and you don’t have to wait until after delivery to feel better.
