Advice from Hoodoo’s beloved mascot

It’s ski season, and if your family is headed up to play in the snow, Harold the Hodag offers these tips:
Time is your friend | Pack the car, lay out base layers and assemble gear for
the morning. Give yourself a generous cushion for roads, parking and rentals. It’s always better to sip a latte early in the lodge than rush through a late start.
One pair of socks! | Skip the double layers. Too many socks bunch and cut circulation, making feet cold and uncomfortable. One tall pair of thick socks is perfect.
Dry beats warm | Waterproof layers matter more than heavy ones. Especially with gloves and pants. Fleece, wool and down are great for insulating, but staying dry keeps everyone comfortable.
Lessons = support | A good coach transforms chaos into confidence. Whether it’s your kid’s first turns or your own refresher, lessons make mountain days safer, smoother and more fun.
Normalize “hard” | Skiing and snowboarding is a sport — and it can be hard. Let your kids know it’s okay to get tired and that taking breaks is good. Remember that for yourself, too.
