Why choose Direct Primary Care?

It is a frustrating situation: you finally find a great doctor but your phone calls get routed through an answering service, you get sent to an urgent care when you’re sick, and well checks are booked months in advance. When you finally do get an appointment, you traverse a waiting room full of sick people and a mountain of paperwork for a few minutes with your doctor.

As a way to provide better service, a growing number of physicians are turning to Direct Primary Care (DPC). With DPC, instead of using health insurance, patients become members and pay a monthly subscription fee directly to the DPC clinic. As members, they receive great access to their primary care physician. Because the doctor is no longer paid on a per visit basis, they have the flexibility to provide care over the phone, via text messages or in the office — whatever makes sense for the situation. The focus shifts to preventative care and staying healthy.

It’s the model we use at Awesome Possum Pediatrics. By keeping overhead expenses low — no need for billing or administration departments — we maintain a patient panel size that is much smaller than in a traditional practice. This gives us more time to focus on your child’s unique health needs and to be available when you need us. Contact us to see if DPC might be a good fit for your child.
