Level up your gathering with free reusable dishware

Summertime is “gathering” season, with weekend picnics, family reunions, cookouts and outdoor meetings filling our social calendars.

As folks coordinate these events, one challenge is managing the enormous amounts of waste the events often generate. Think plastic forks, paper plates, ubiquitous red plastic cups and crumpled-up paper napkins. Even a small group can generate a bunch of trash.

One option is to incorporate reusable dishware into the mix. Not only will your event generate less trash, but reusable dishware also uses far fewer resources and energy over its lifetime than disposable counterparts. For those who want this reusability option, Waste Wise Lane County (Lane County Waste Management) offers a free dishware loan program for small events.

The program provides durable, reusable dishware kits (including utensils, plates, cups and napkins) to encourage community members to switch from disposables to reusables. Kits are available in sets of 25 place settings. Dishware loan requests are approved on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit LaneCountyOR.gov/WasteWise-Events to reserve dishes for your next event.
