Bringing loved ones together for any reason is our favorite. And even in the depths of winter, Bend knows how to have fun.
We're suckers for holiday traditions. Here are a few of our favorites for the season and into the new year.
Winter traditions
Tumalo Creek Holiday Lights Paddle Parade
Dec. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Deck out your kayak/canoe/paddleboard in holiday decor and join the parade on the river, or bundle up and watch the glow from the trails around the Old Mill. This holiday tradition is one of the absolute best.
Maker’s markets
If gifting is your love language (same!), you’ll love the charming Maker’s Markets around town. Our top picks are the Holiday Market at Schilling’s Garden Market, Craft O! At The Workhouse and Magical Markets of Merriment at Somewhere That’s Green.
Cut your own Christmas tree
We do this every year with our kids. Honestly, working for your tree somehow makes it that much more magical. Pro tips: pack a saw, throw a snow shovel in the car (ask us how we know), bring warm drinks, and don’t forget your $5 permit.
Snow play
Grab your sleds, hot cocoa and a sno-park pass for a morning of sledding at Wanoga Sno Park. If you want to stick closer to home, swing by Drake Park or Hollinshead Park after a fresh dusting of powder for pure childhood bliss.
Best mocktails for Dry January
The Dez Lounge
Wait, did you know Bend has an alcohol-free cocktail lounge? The Dez Lounge on Colorado Ave is your headquarters during Dry January (and anytime you want a delicious drink without the booze). We’re eyeing the Spicy Piñarita.
Lady Bird Cultural Society
This Old Mill gem serves up fun non-alcoholic drinks and keeps a nice selection of alcohol-free spirits behind the bar, so you can get creative with your own concoctions.
