Better all-around snacking!

Spending more time around the house — something we’ve all been doing more of recently — can lead to boredom, which leads to snacking.

Instead of letting idle snacking negatively affect your family’s health, trash the junk food and turn snacking into a healthy activity with these ideas:

Bell pepper slices:

Crisp, colorful and delicious, these are a healthful answer to french fries, with all of the crunch and none of the fat. Slice organic green, red and yellow bell peppers into quarter-inch wide strips. In addition to being a refreshing snack, which is especially important as it heats up outside again, bell peppers are a great source of vitamins A, C and E.

Dried fruit:

Most of us don’t eat enough fruit. Let’s fix that by showing the next generation of snackers just how tasty — and varied — it can be. Sweet and chewy dried fruit, available in the bulk department at the Co-op, makes a great alternative to packaged snack-treats loaded with extra sugar. Look for dried mangoes, apple rings, pear slices, pineapple slices, banana chips, persimmons and more. They offer an unmatched variety of fun snacking options that give your kids the energy they need to learn and grow, every day.
