Tales & Trails Community Reading Event

The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia is proud to partner with local Boy and Girl Scout Troops to encourage summer reading while educating children about service, citizenship and nature. Using the theme "Tales & Trails" the nonprofit agencies have joined forces for a Community Reading Event on August 2nd, at 10 a.m., at Keewaydin Park in Kennewick.

The event will feature story time with guest readers from the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. The stories read to children will reflect the values of the Scout organizations, such as citizenship, loyalty to country, service in the community and the outdoors.  Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring a blanket and relax on the grass during the reading event.

After story time, guests will have an opportunity to visit the booths of scouting organizations to learn more information, as well as enjoy snacks and refreshments. Children who attend this fun event will also be able to take home a book. The Reading Foundation will provide several copies of Wilderness Explorers' Guide from the Pixar movie UP and a variety of other books for various age children.

Summer camp

My kids are having a blast at summer camp! They are at Horse Camp and it's amazing how much confidence they get from sharing the summer with a four-legged friend. They will remember the bond with their horse forever, as well as all the friends their own age. I'm so proud of what they're accomplishing.

When Super Grover loses his superness, Sesame Street needs a hero! Never fear, Elmo and his team of super heroes are here. Teaching lessons of healthy habits through song and dance, Elmo, Abby Cadabby and your favorite Sesame Street friends will explore exercise, nutrition, sleep/energy and hygiene - all in a quest to put the "super" back in Super Grover. It's Elmo's Super Heroes to the rescue!

Sesame Street Live "Elmo's Super Heroes" features an array of popular (and healthy!) songs, many of them renditions of tunes that parents will remember and kids will love: "Old MacDonald," "Splish Splash," "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and "Sunny Days."  Like television's Sesame Street, each Sesame Street Live production features timeless lessons for all ages.  Through the dazzle of this full-blown Broadway-quality show, the production will teach children lessons in healthy habits that they can use long after the show ends.  Adults will appreciate the universal appeal of Sesame Street Live, the high-tech stagecraft and cleverly written scripts.

You can catch Elmo's Super Heroes on Tuesday, August 9th at 7 pm, or Wednesday, August 10th at 10:30 am & 7 pm. Tickets are $13 and $18, with a limited number of $26 Gold Circle seats and $48 Sunny Seats also available.
