Setting goals
What is your fitness goal?
To play a mean game of tag with my eight-year-old son after
school. At this time I'm usually on my third cup of coffee to get
through the sleepy afternoon. Fitting into size 8 pants would be a
bonus.
What is your biggest
challenge?
Logistics, mental hurdles and a mean sugar addiction. It's
hard to make yourself do something when you already feel stretched
to your max taking care of three very active little people. And
childcare for three is expensive. I've never been a runner or very
athletic so I don't have any drive to go do sports or any
exercise.
Why did you choose Sarah?
Sarah is a yoga instructor and teaches Nia. Nia is low
impact and I love dance. Sarah can help me strengthen my core and
pelvic floor with yoga and Nia is great exercise that soothes my
soul. Also, Sarah's expertise with raw food can help me get a grip
on my sugar addiction and overcome the issues associated with
that.
Ready to get fit
What kind of foods are going to eat for the nutrition
part of your program?
I am adding raw foods to my diet, cutting sugar & processed
grains, and reducing caffeine as well as just reducing calories.
For breakfast today I had a kefir, frozen berry and spinach
smoothie. For lunch I ate a kale and seaweed salad Sarah prepared
for me to try and address the inflammation I appear to have. It was
so good!! She gave me that recipe as well as a few others that I
plan to try over the next week.
How will you incorporate your diet into the family's (or keep it
separate)?
I will offer all the dishes I make to the kids and Matt and see
what they like. They are having the smoothie and like it ok. I need
to play with it some to get them to love it. I can't wait to make
raw hummous.
Where will you shop for the food?
Anywhere I can get fresh food at an affordable price and as local
as possible. I often shop at the Sweet Leaf Farms "Corner Market"
near my house, but I like any farmers market, Sundance or Capella
Market.
How do you feel about starting?
I am very excited! I've been going to Nia twice a week for a few
weeks and I'll start going Saturdays too. Sarah is giving me a yoga
plan to do at home on the off days. I'm excited about the diet, but
I crave sugar. My birthday was last weekend (just before I
technically started the diet) and I lived it up with birthday cake
and had fun with friends. Now I have to throw out the leftovers. I
loved my salad today, but an hour or two later I was starving. I
have a lot to learn and I think I'm going through a sort of detox.
I needed a change. This is very cool.
