Back to School Time

Has anyone ventured out and purchased school supplies yet?  I actually purchased them early, before the first day of school.  I always expect to spend a lot of money.  However, this year, I feel that my kids looked for more deals than last.  My son found four spiral binders for $1.  Then he proudly told me that if he had purchased the spiral binders that were not packaged together, it would have cost twice as much.  Not to be outdone, the daughter also purchased the bundled spiral binders.  If it was just her, I suspect that she wouldn't have cared.  She has a different perspective about money than our son.

Many families have kids that use money differently.  The challenge that I have is to teach them the same thing, but through differently ways.

Good luck shopping and happy teaching

Road Trip Winner is Nicole Duncan

Congratulations Nicole, you've won a gas card to fuel up for the next big road trip! (Find out how you can win something cool today!)

Nicole, Wesley and Hunter Duncan enjoyed their trip to South Beach Campground, south of Newport. This is a great place for families! Check out nearby marine life exhibits at the Hatfield Marine Science Center and the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

Thanks to all the moms for participating in our Road Trip Challenge.

Here are a couple of our favorites:

Heidi Ferguson ~ My tired boys on our road trip. I took my daughter and 2 sons to Redmond for a night then drove north on Hwy. 97 through Madras to The Dalles. We stayed the night there and visited Thomas the Tank Engine in Hood River the next morning for "A Day Out with Thomas." I thought I was going to go crazy and I'd probably never do it again. Hey, I gotta be honest right? I've said it many times before and I'll say it again, it's a good thing they're all so cute!

Kim Ridders ~ For our "big road trip" we drove 'all the way' to Corvallis to a great school which has a wonderful playground, had a picnic lunch there and spent the entire afternoon playing on their wooden play structure. It was the best afternoon yet! We can't wait to go back! We all loved it! It was called Wildcat Park at Wilson Elementry School. It was our biggest road trip so far this summer. The kids can't wait to take their dad to the park to play and show him the neat place we found on our excursion!

Be a Bag Lady

Alright, I don't carry the hottest bag - torn from the pages of People, where celebrity moms are toting $2500 diaper bags. I don't change my bag to match the day or the occasion or the weather. Mostly because it's just too much work!

Finally - one of those, "Why didn't they think of this earlier?" items. Miche Bag is a purse that you buy one time, fill one time, and carry always. You just change the outside to match your needs. Let's see if I can explain...

Step 1 - the Miche Bag It's easy, choose black or brown. Now don't get nervous at the boring bag. Stick with me, there's more...

Step 2 - the Miche Bag Shells Now is where we have fun. You can choose from endless shells that attach easily to the outside of your bag. No emptying the contents to change bags! So you don't have to look at those crumpled receipts, melted chap sticks or breakfast bar crumbs until later. You can just switch covers and head out to...

BEAVER GAME!

BEAVER GAME!

All the same bag! These are just a few of my favorites. There are tons to choose from. This is just such a good idea, created by a woman who was mad about spilling her purse. Go girl, I say. How could it be any better? A coupon! Check it out... Call Shawn today for $10 off coupon.

Concert in the garden

Last night we went to Oregon Garden to see Sawyer Brown in concert. We sat on the ground, forgot to bring coats and got rained on - it was so much fun!

We spread our blankets at the top of the grassy amphitheater under a tree (thank you Jefri). Others got wet while we were dry with a great view. The food was good. The drinks were good and the music was amazing. Don't miss a chance to see Sawyer Brown.

After the concert we took the tram from right behind our seats. Jef and I sat in the front seat with the very fun driver and watched the tiny green frogs hop across the path in the dark. We rode up the winding path to the Garden Resort Hotel and luckily there was a room available.

We enjoyed a nightcap (do we still say nightcap?) in the bar at the main lodge. Each table had a cute couch to sit in, but we chose to gather around the fireplace. We had a great night and loved not driving home in the dark. Our room had a fireplace and a very comfortable bed. It was our first time out without the kids in a long time. What a perfect night!
